POULTRY VACCINE MIXING
Steps in poultry vaccine mixing
1. Prepare the drinking water:
Clean drinkers: Remove and thoroughly clean all waterers to eliminate any residues that could interfere with the vaccine, Stabilize water: Use a water stabilizer, like skim milk powder, to neutralize chlorine or other chemicals in the water that could deactivate the vaccine. A common recommendation is 2 grams of skim milk powder per liter of water, Dissolve the stabilizer: Ensure the milk powder is completely dissolved by mixing it with warm water if necessary,
Let it sit: Allow the stabilized water to rest for 15-20 minutes to neutralize the water before adding the vaccine,
2. Prepare the vaccine:
Calculate dosage: Determine the correct amount of vaccine based on the number of birds and manufacturer instructions.
Reconstitute: Follow the manufacturer's instructions for reconstituting the vaccine with the appropriate diluent.
Mix thoroughly: Ensure the vaccine is fully dissolved and mixed into the diluent.
Administer immediately: Once mixed, the vaccine should be offered to the birds immediately.
3. Administer the vaccine:
Make birds thirsty: Remove the waterers for a period of time before vaccination to encourage consumption of the medicated water, Offer vaccine solution: Provide the vaccine in clean waterers, ensuring all birds have access,
Ensure consumption: Offer enough medicated water for the birds to consume within 1-2 hours, as the vaccine's potency decreases over time,
Monitor consumption: Observe the birds to ensure they are drinking the medicated water.
Refill with fresh water: After the vaccine water is consumed,
4. Post-vaccination care:
Vitamin supplementation: Consider providing a vitamin supplement to help birds recover from the vaccination process and boost their immune response, Observe for reactions: Monitor the flock for any adverse reactions to the vaccine.
Consult veterinarian: If any concerns arise
